At the Book Fair in Belgrade on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 was promoted a book by Dr. Neven Cvetićanin Dead Ends of History; Elite, (Dis)continuity and Legitimacy on which talked about Dr. Dusko Lopandic, Dr. Goran Basic, Gojko Bozovic and the author.

Presenting the book, Dr. Goran Basic pointed out that Dr. Cveticanin’s book is a significant and valuable work that sheds light on social phenomena, in this case the phenomenon of the elite in Serbia, from several sides, not only scientifically but also practically politically, which gives the book a special appeal. Dr. Basic said that the quality of the book is that it is multidisciplinary, because it intersects different disciplines of social sciences, as a result of which the researched phenomenon of the elite in Serbia is thoroughly and qualitatively processed.

Ambassador Dr. Dusko Lopandic said that the quality of Dr. Cveticanin’s book is more in that it raises important questions such as the possibility of building a functional elite in Serbia for the 21st century, than in pretending to impose apodictic and rigid answers to the asked questions. Dr. Lopandić also pointed out that the book is an invitation to a new (social) deal in Serbia, which is scientifically argued.

Gojko Bozovic from the publishing house Arhipelag pointed out that Dr. Cveticanin’s book tries to explain the frequent lack of dialogue within different and ideologically conflicting sides of the Serbian elite and the fact that Serbian society lacks serious dialogue and consensus on important social, national and state issues.

In his presentation, the author of the book, Dr. Neven Cvetićanin, thanked everyone who participated in the production of the book, as well as the team that worked on the preparation of the book, the speakers at the promotion and the present media. He explained the motives that prompted him to undertake research on the phenomenon of the elite in Serbia and listed the sources and literature he used in the research, as well as the methodological approach he followed in the research. He singled out several relevant conclusions from the book as a possible contribution to the topic of understanding the elite in Serbia and proposed institutional solutions for its more functional constitution in the 21st century, compared to the previous time. The author of the book then answered several questions from colleagues in the audience in a substantive discussion.
